Running and other highly physical activities have usually been associated with males. The thinking is that it is the men who are most likely to participate in such sports or activities. Many point to this kind of thinking as the reason why plenty of training gear and running equipment are targeted towards men.
The good thing is that this trend tends to be shifting. Nowadays, there seems to be more equipment and training gear that are targeted towards women. There are now more running watches that are specifically made to fit a woman’s needs and wants.
So what exactly are the things that set apart a running watch made for women compared to the usual male targeted running watches? Are they really that much different from their male counterparts? To be able to answer these questions, you should know about the following things that are usually added or changed in running watches for women:
Change in the band’s physical design:
Usually, a running watch would require a very tough strap to be able to match your equally intense activities. This is because you do not want to risk your watch falling away from your wrist while you are doing your training activities. For this purpose, running watches tend to have thick straps that really wrap around the wrists.
When it comes to running watches for women, the manufacturers would usually trim the thickness of the wrist straps, to make them more appealing for women. Of course, the manufactures try to do this change or modification without making the strap more susceptible to breaking or falling off.
Change in the face’s size:
While the men’s running watch would usually have very large faces and buttons to accommodate the large wrist area and fingers, the ones that are targeted for women would usually be smaller in design.
This is done mainly for two reasons. The first is that, having a very large face for a female who has a thinner wrist width would make the watch unwieldy and difficult to use. This is the same with having dials that are too big for a woman’s fingers to intuitively press.
The other reason is for aesthetics. Usually, a woman would prefer something that is a bit sleeker looking than the large running watches that men would commonly wear while training.
Colors:
The running watches that are commonly targeted for women would usually come in a variety of bright and lively colors. This is a stark contrast to the dark or dull colors that a running watch for men would usually have.
As you can see, most of the differences between male and female running watches are of the physical variety. This means that the underlying mechanism that supports accurate data gathering and results, remain unchanged.
Another thing to note is that the running watch design is usually just a matter of preference. If a female enjoys the large face or dark colors then she could easily pick it up and use it without any worries as well.
