When you want to become a serious runner, you would probably want to purchase a running watch that is already GPS enabled. The GPS capability of this running equipment would enable your watch to track your data using satellite technology. This enables you to gain the most accurate read of your ability while you are training.

Of course, not everyone is aware of how to fully maximize the GPS capabilities of their running watches. While they know how to utilize the features, they are not really that knowledgeable in applying these training features that the GPS enabled running watch has to their training. Because of this, the watch becomes underutilized and they are not able to gain its full benefits.

Here are some of the things that you can do or modify in your training to be able to maximize the features and capabilities of the running watch:

Set a Daily Goal revolving on distance:

You may want to test your body’s capability to traverse long distances. Each day you should set a minimum distance for you to run. This would enable your body to grow accustomed to running far distances without tiring out that much.

The GPS capability of the running watch would equip it with full distance based features. It would be able to accurately track just how far you have gone in a set period of time. The great thing with the GPS is that it would be able to take into account stoppage as well as the altitude that you are taking which can affect the overall distance that you have taken.

Try to maintain pace:

After finding out if you can reach long distances, the next step would be to train your body so that it would be able to run at a certain speed over a set distance without tiring out. The goal of this kind of training would be in increasing your speed and stamina.

The running watch would be able to help you by easily calculating your pace through the data feeds from the satellite. There are even some watches who would give you a visual representation of your target pace, to give you a better idea of just how the current speed and pace that you are doing stacks up to it.

Of course, these are merely examples of how you could modify your training, once you have your GPS running watch with you. It may be better to consult your personal fitness coaches, or professional running coaches for a more detailed view of how the GPS running watch could be utilized to improve your training.
