Improving your Running Times

One of the goals of most runners or running enthusiasts would be to improve their running times. They would want to cut off some seconds or minutes from their times so that they would be able to see their improvement in the activity.

Of course, this is easier said than done. You would have to do plenty of training in order to achieve this kind of goal. To help out these runners, here are some tips that could help in improving your running times.

Be consistent in your training:

The adage “practice makes perfect” would truly ring true when you are trying to increase your running times. If you would really want to increase your speed, then you would definitely have to keep on training.

You should set practice goals for every day that you train. You could try decreasing your lap split times during each and every training session, reaching a higher top speed during your runs, or even just being able to finish a certain route faster.

To do this, it would be to your advantage of you would use a running watch.

Get a good running watch:

Speaking of running watches, one thing that could definitely help you train better would be to start running with a good running watch. A running watch would be able to track all the pertinent data which would show which aspects of the run you would need improvement on.

A good running watch should be one that would be durable enough to withstand your intense training regimen, provide you with accurate data in any condition, and give you access to the your training information that could then be analyzed by a computer software.

By being equipped with a running watch that does all of the aforementioned things, you would definitely have a powerful tool for improving your running times.

Avoid relying on Treadmill Runs:

One of the common training methods that many amateurs would use to improve their running times would be to use a treadmill. The belief is that you are basically doing the same running, except that you are actually able to do it in the comfort of a gym or even your own home.

Actually, studies have shown that running through treadmills can actually decrease your speed. This is because while running through a treadmill can provide you with the cardiovascular training that you would want, there is a difference in the motion that you are doing.

The study shows that you tend to take weaker strides done in poor form once you step on a treadmill. This could adversely affect your speed as it is vastly different from when you are running on a street or a track.

As such, it would be better to just do your runs on the road instead of through a treadmill.

Hopefully, these three things would help you in shedding off those seconds and improving your running time.
