People feel that in order to improve their running performance, then everything that they do should be related to the actual running activity. This is actually a misconception as there are a variety of simple things that you can do which could in improve your running.
These things may not be directly related to the running motions or the training sessions but would definitely help in providing you with the speed, endurance, and technical boosts that you would need in order to run faster.
Here are a couple of those simple or basic things that you could do which would help in improving your running performance:
Rest:
Most people think that in order for them to be able to improve their performance, they must be able to train as hard as they can. While there is some truth to that statement, you should understand that the human body needs balance. Pushing it to the extremes each and every time you train would only lead to muscle strains and injuries.
This means that you should also take rest into account when you are doing your running training. Rest would enable your body to recover from the strain and ensure that you are at peak performance for the next training session. Remember that if you just keep on pushing yourself even if your body is aching, then your training may be subconsciously weaker than what you can actually do.
If you can’t feel at ease with total rest, then perhaps you can just adjust your training so that you would be able to alternate full blast sessions with moderate to light training.
Study the functions of your Running Watch:
Improving your running training should not just be limited to your actual running performance. You can actually help your training if you stop and take the time to study the functions of your running watch. While this may seem irrelevant, the things that you can figure out about your watch’s functions could actually help you craft a training program that would help improve your performance.
If you can figure out what kind of data your running watch can gather aside from the usual time, speed, and pace, then you would be able to get a better program that would be able to track these new information. By doing this, you are giving your body a better and more rounded work out that could definitely help in improving your running speed.
Of course, the caveat is that you should actually purchase a running watch that can track all of these advanced features. You cannot expect to get sophisticated training data if the running watch that you have is an old and outdated one.
As you can see, these things may not exactly call for you to push yourself harder, but would definitely help in giving you that improvement in running that you seek!
