4 Stars Nice Watch
I am really enjoying this watch. After not having one for many years, it is nice to simply look down and see the time. It is easy to use, quick to navigate, and light. The velcro/cloth band makes it water-durable, and easy to remove or put on.

The small compass on the band has some trouble finding North if it is not totally level and will come in handy in the woods and fields while hiking or hunting.

5 Stars great “mommy” watch
This is the 2nd watch I’ve had like this. I wore my other for over 4 years before the battery ran out (I just replaced the band a couple times because it just kept right on working). I love the fact that it has 3 alarms (you can set to go off daily, weekdays, or weekends) because as a mommy sometimes I get so busy that I need a reminder. I didn’t like the little compass on this model, but I just cut the little band off (it’s not functional to keeping the watch band on).

5 Stars I love this watch!
I love this watch and am searching high and low for the male version for my husband. Unfortunately I have had no luck. This watch has a comfy velcro band that you can adjust to any size or course. It’s also cute with the subtle shade of pink on the face. I love it.

Works well for being used as an ‘everyday’ watch. Biggest downside is the velcro will catch on clothes. So don’t wear it with anything ‘nice.’ Handles being dirty and sweaty and wet well.

Bought this for my wife, who’s training for an upcoming road race. At first it seemed hard for her to adjust the max pulse rate alarm correctly, but she quickly got the hang of it and now loves all the features. It helps us run together and stay under control in terms of exertion levels.

5 Stars Right out of the Box
I am very pleased with this product. Right out of the box this watch performed beyond expectations. I simply programmed the watch with my personal information, laced the foot pod through the shoestrings, threw the strap around my chest, and within twenty minutes I was up and running. Everything clicked the very first run – too easy.

As for the software, it was easy to install and fairly easy to navigate. This system can do so many functions that one can easily get overwhelmed. You will have to invest some time to figure out your goals and what you want the information to tell you. But, if you just want a simple graph and basic information about a run, it will do that automatically! You just can’t loose.

Here are some specifics: After four short runs I had the foot pod perfectly calibrated. It was not off by much to begin with but adjusting it to measure your stride precisely is a breeze. The heart rate strap is comfortable and I like the idea of replacing my own batteries. The watch itself is not as comfortable as I would like it to be but over time I think it will work its way around my wrist better. I do like how the buttons are set up and how it displays information. Being able to replace the battery on my own is a plus.

4 Stars Good HRM, excellent software, defective data transmission
I received my Polar RS200sd heart rate monitor app. 1 month ago, and have used it about 3/week for running (20-30 km/week).

When I first received the HRM I was a little disappointed by the flimsy plastic apperance of the watch (it is plastic with a thin metal frontpiece and plastic covered glass screen), but so far it is scratch free, and the light weight is nice on my narrow wrist.

The audible alarms, large screen and easy switch between optional screens makes keeping track of heart rate, zones, speed and milage on the run easy and convenient. I have used the preloaded programs and also created my own programs in the software. You can make programs based on different heart rates/zones/speed/time which makes running an optimal interval course a breeze. I have been using the tests (optimizer and fitness test), without much success. They give constant results despite great variations in my workouts. The heart rate strap and footpod have worked w/o failure and distance is accurate after calibration.

The included software is the best running software I have ever tried. Like the watch, it is highly customizable, so I recommend taking some time to explore the options using the detailed manual. It has a calender with weekly workout summaries, daily logs, individual workout charts, and 5 report charts for comparing workouts.

My major problem with this product is data transfer using the included IrDA device. About half of the data transfers results in Windows Vista crash, which is a real pain since I got this HRM in order to analyze data. Hopefully this problem w Vista will be solved.

I highly recommend this HRM for a serious runner (with Windows XP) who wants to analyze HR/speed/distance in detail, but do not need maps, since this HRM has no GPS.

UPDATE: I no longer recommend this product because polar support did not resolve the Vista compatibility issue. Unfortunately, Amazon will not let me change the star setting.

5 Stars Just the kind of HRM I was looking for
I have been using RS 400 for over a month and completely satisfied with its performance. While I was already excited about its features, when I was researching for a good running computer within my price range, I was a little concerned about some of the negative reviews regarding its infra-red connectivity. The first time I tried downloading data, I did have trouble, but I realized, I was holding it in my hand and my hand was not steady, so I then took the watch off, and placed it on the table close to the USB infrared reader and it has been able to always get the data quickly after that. Other than that, the recording features where you can record your data at 1s, 5s, 60s etc. are great as I’d like to do a lot of interval training and would want to see my heart rate change almost close to real time. The Polar Personal Trainer software that comes free with it is also a big bonus as I can personalize my target zones based on VO2 max values and find out the distribution of my workout in various VO2 max percentages. I also like the fact that it calculates my calorie expenditure by taking VO2 max into account, as well as heart rate, gender, age and weight, unlike the other monitors that just use gender, weight excluding VO2 max, thereby giving my more accurate representation of the calories I am burning. When I compare it to the calories burned shown by my treadmill, bike or elliptical trainer, they show a lot higher number of calories burned almost 20-30% difference. Therefore, I think it is a much more reliable tool even if you just want to lose weight. I would definitely recommend this product to any serious runner or even a casual person, who wants more accurate estimate of their calorie expenditure during a workout.

2 Stars Good heart rate monitor, battery life issue, tough to change the battery
As a hear rate monitor this unit is really good and I like the software that comes with it (this is my third model of Polar monitors). But this is a replacement RS400 because the first one ran through batteries very quickly (to be fair I loved this watch when I first got it and I gave the first unit 5 stars in my review, albeit that was only after about a month of usage). The first battery lasted about four months, the second one four weeks. I don’t suspect this is normal behavior though, it could just be a defect in the unit…or, as I have read on some of the Polar message boards, the watch is designed such that the side buttons are very easily pushed in when setting the watch down on its side such that it could be getting turned on inadvertently and running the battery down. My guess is that it is the latter rather than being a defect. Now I make sure not to put the watch down on its side to prevent this from happening. The watch is also designed so that, theoretically, you can change the battery yourself but the back is made of such soft plastic that it is almost impossible to open it without destroying the battery cover. This is very annoying. My last Polar was great because it had a metal back with small screws that were easy to pop out, change the battery, and pop back in. My guess is you have to have a special jewelers tool to get this back off without damaging the plastic. The conclusion I have come to is that I think this design is just a poor design. They need to go back to the screw on metal backs (e.g. 625Xi) and redesign the buttons to prevent the watch being accidentally turned on and draining the battery. I would recommend you look at a different Polar model as there are other designs that appear to be better and less likely to suffer from these issues.

i’ve upgraded from one of Polar’s eco models to the RS400. So far after three months or so it has worked great. large enough numbers to see ok and backlighting as well. i’m pleased so far. i recommend this product.

2 Stars Looks and works good, but not a durable watch
I purchased this watch from another website, and she was really happy with it. However, after only a year the battery is dead. Seems to be a chronic issue with these watches. In replacing the battery, I turned the battery cover too far resulting in damage to the soft aluminum case of the watch. I was able to replace the cover, but I am positive that the watch is no longer waterproof. We will have to keep an eye on it.

Speaking of the aluminum case, The watch looks like it has survived a war from all the dings and scratches in it.

If this watch survives another year, there will be no battery replacement; it will go to the trash bin.

P.S. to replace the battery, simply turn the battery cover on the back of the watch ONE QUARTER TURN ONLY. The cover did not pop open for me, so I kept turning, thinking it needed to go further, or that it might unscrew off the case. Well, it kept turning, and kept turning, and kept turning. After prying the cover off, I realized that I had forced the blades of the stainless steel cover through the grooves in the aluminum case. Trust me, it did not take that much effort to force it. Lovely. Somehow the cover seems to close somewhat snugly, but it is not a tight fit. It is a horrible design if you ask me. They could have printed an “open” and “close” on the cover/case if they wanted to.

4 Stars Just a little different
This watch was a replacement for my wife’s dead Timex. I was drawn to the unusual appearance — she was initially suspicious of the “twisted” face. Now that she’s had it for a while, she’s come to love the very large, very clear display. The rubber bracelet is comfortable for her as well. She’s only splash-tested its water resistance with no adverse results. She likes that the display is customizable and that it can be set to shut off the display after some length of time. That said, its timer and countdown features are not intuitive and took a little study to become comfortable (she is, incidentally a Phd scientist…).

Nike Silver Triax watch modern looking and everything i wanted in watch. I especially like the smooth, sleek design and all of it’s many features.

4 Stars unusual design
The unusual design is what attracted me to this design. It is just a little different from the average sports watch. I like the angled face, the band is slim and sleek and the display is easy to read. The only downside is that the angle of the face combined with the fact that the face is very large means that the watch doesn’t fit me in the normal watch position of just above the wrist bone (it hits the bone) so I have to wear it below the wrist bone which isn’t as comfortable and ends up being under the sleeve of a long sleeved top.

4 Stars Tough little number
Purchased as a gift for my 11-year old son, it has been a really tough watch that my son has been unable to destroy. The only prolem is the band velcro gets worn out on the end.

3 Stars Great watch, bad band
Pros:

-option for 2 time zones (I work in aviation – about half of my work requires local time, the other half GMT, so it’s handy to display one or the other with a quick push of a button)

-compass

-timer

-multiple alarms

-velcro band allows quick/easy on/off

-I’ve given this watch a pretty good beating (especially all the times it’s fallen on the ground…), and it’s held up great

Cons:

-the band! The velcro wore out after just a few months & the watch CONSTANTLY comes undone & falls off (I’ve almost lost it several times). The slightest catch/pull on the band opens it up – usually my shirt sleeve is enough to undo it

-the compass fell out after about 3 months & I did lose that (it probably would have popped right back in had I been able to find it, but I didn’t realize it was gone until it was too late)

I’m actually browsing the site to try & find a replacement band so I can keep the same watch. Had I known about the problem with the velcro band, I probably wouldn’t have gotten it in the first place, but it’s a nice enough watch that I’d prefer to just replace the band rather than find a whole new watch.

3 Stars Good functionality, but a little too feminine for a men’s watch.
The color of the outside is not black and silver, its black and pastel green contrary to what the picture looks like. Also the watch face is a lot smaller than it looks in the picture making it look, as mentioned in the title, like a female watch more so than a mens. Not a big enough of a deal to return it, just something to think about. Also the compass part on the band looks as though you could fit something under it, it doesnt fit snuggly against the bang so it sticks up a little, also there is just a plastic link holding the band together I feel as though this could get broken easily.

OVERALL, worth the money but I dont think Ill be wearing this to work anytime soon (blue collar), better for excercising.

This watch is everything it is supposed to be. It is a bit clumsy for a small wrist like mine, but since it has a velcro attachment, I can adjust it easily. I like the ease in using the alarm and other functions and I am really happy to have the multiple time zone setting since I travel a great deal.

Wasn’t sure I was going to like the strap, but I do. Velcro is a wonderful thing. Not to big and not small, just right size for me. Numbers are clear. I love that it has time,date,day and seconds counting on the face. A small compass on the strap above the clock face, that’s cool. Leaving the best for last, the little light. I wear glasses and in the middle of the night just touch the button and the face is fully lit up. I have always liked the INDIGLO. I just wish it was BLUE and Black instead of Green and Black.

2 Stars excellent but you have to praid for function works
this watch is excellent but mine works really bad, i bought it 3 weeks ago and never works on calories burned.. for example, I did 40 min of a hard spinning class and the watch said that I burned 30kcal at 84% average,,, poor watch… if you can buy a polar! i realized that a lot of users have severals problems with T series, pls find differents forum on the web and see them….

1 Star Useless!
I loved the look, feel, and the features this heart rate monitor provides, and I so wanted to keep it. However, if you use it while you move your arms around other than a stationary position you will lose your HR and therefore not have an accurate picture of your workout. I replaced the batteries in both the belt and the watch, paired the belt to the watch but it continued to lose the HR if my wrist went behind my back or over my head. I even returned it and bought it from a different store hoping to correct the problem. Both watches experienced the same situation. In desperately wanting to keep it, I researched and found this to be a common problem with Suunto. I have been a long time Polar user, but HATE the look of every single one of them, so I really was looking for the same quality. Unfortunately,Suunto isn’t the one.

SO I bought this watch, in need of a heart rate monitor and since I already owned a Suunto watch I thought I would love this one too. I LOVE IT! It’s comfortable, it’s easy to use once you figure out all the little applications, it’s a good size for women. I’m still finding cool little things out about the watch. I suggest you buy the wireless PC Pod too and it will also log your RPMs if you buy a bike pod or even distance if you buy a GPS pod or foot pod. The PC pod will log all your workouts on your PC. I am about to purchase that. The coach on the watch give you the option to follow it but it does not punish you if you don’t. The training effect is confusing at first but when you log your workouts it gives you a range to categorize each workout. I love this watch/ HRM and would recommend it to active women who are into gadgets.

I have had the watch for a little more than a month now. I would say it is a very large step up from my Polar RS100. However I have a few complaints:

1. The backlight only works some of the time.

2. The screen scratches very easily

Other than that the watch is awesome.

5 Stars I Lovit I Lovit I Lovit I Lovit
This is a sweet piece of gear. I’ve been using it for about a month now. It works great and gathers a lot of data.

The watch itself is comfortable the band works especially well, (mine is the black volcano). A friend has a Suunto T4C as well, (his is the black frost), but his band is a little different. I will agree with other reviews that the face is prone to scratching. With this in mind I use mine only for workouts. The interface isn’t too difficult to figure out. Had it totally figured out after about 4 workouts. I saw a lot of reviews complaining about the complexity however with all the things this thing does the 5 buttons are easy enough to work with. My Timex was about as difficult to figure out.

The chest strap is OK. About as comfortable as a chest strap is going to be. It took a week or so to figure out exactly where to place the strap on my chest and how tight was tight enough. Once the chest strap placement is determined this thing rarely loses heartrate once it has captured it.

I could take or leave the coach function. It usually tells me to do long low intensity workouts or to rest. I haven’t really done much with the coach function as a result.

The data that the T4C can store is pretty extensive. There is detailed workout data available for the 14 most recent workouts. This data includes duration, training effect, average heart rate, peak heart rate, calories burned, and lap times (if using the lap timer). I don’t have the PC interface but transfer the infomation manually to a spreadsheet every few days. Long term data is available (totals) for the current week, the previous week, current month, and the previous 11 months. This data includes the number of workouts, total workout time, total running distance (Foot Pod), total bike distance (Bike Pod), total GPS distance (GPS Pod), and total calories burned.

I don’t have the Foot, Bike, or GPS POD paired devices.

I’ve found it most helpful when lifting. I’ve set heartrate targets for starting my next set so my weight workouts remain in a cardio zone. Prior to having the watch I’d just wait until if felt like my heartrate had dropped enough. Now I have hard data to start the next set.

Spent a lot of time researching before buying. I recommend buying something really cheap that you won’t mind throwing away when it fails/battery dies or buy something decent. This is something decent. Things that drew me to the Suunto T4C is a coded system. You won’t get crosstalk in a spin class with others using a monitor. With the Suunto you can change your own batteries. Most of the Polar monitors have to be sent back to the manufacturer for battery replacement, (read the reviews). The only other monitor that I considered was the Garmin Forerunner 305. Picked the Suunto T4C based on word of mouth of a friend, and I have no regrets.

That’s about all I have to say about that.

How can I be reminded of an occasion is I have to actively check the occasion mode to see if theres an occasion.

Night mode makes it so no matter which button you press the light turns on, is this for when your reseting your watch during a blackout at night? is it really so hard to press the button that turns the light on?

Ive owned quite a few of the Ironmans from Timex and I have to say that this is one of the best.

The band is very comfortable and the base curve of the watch and band secures fits perfectly. Even easier to use than previous generations as well.

1 Star Defective Watch
After three weeks of normal use, I noticed moisture build up under the face. Being that I was leaving on a two week vacation, I hoped for the best. A runner can’t be without their watch.

While on vacation the moisture eventually shorted the watch. I invested in a new battery and had the watch cleaned.

Upon returning home, the problem has come back. Of course I am past the return window, and am getting no satisfaction from Amazon or Timex.

I am a life time runner and have owned 6 Timex running watches over the years (never a problem).

I will not be doing business with Timex anytime soon.

i always read all the amazon.com reviews, good and bad, when i’m researching a purchase. the reviews on this watch made it clear the thing would do exactly what i needed it to do and no more, no less. i don’t NEED a GPS or a pedometer, i only need a chronometer and standard watch, to time splits and overall, up to 30 splits i think, so it’s great for marathon training. it’s [pretty] easy to navigate the screens while running, and certainly easy enough to read, even for an old metal head like me.

if you don’t need the fancy bells and whistles, go for this one. [i know you don't need them, or you wouldn't be looking in this price range, now would you?]

Awsome product for new runners. Purchased for wife’s birthday(I am a romantic at heart). She is far from tech savvy as am I but basic functions simple enough to utilize without delving too deeply in manual. Also purchased the seperate foot pod that provides more detailed info and feedback on runs. As time goes by I can see her utilizing more of the functions on the watch and the website but for now viewing her results after a run give her the motivation to get back out for the next time. The Lilac color gives product more of a feminine flavor as opposed to a slimmed down man’s watch.

4 Stars Finally a good fitness watch for petite women!
I just received my FR60, and my first impression is that I love this product. I’ve had to wait for it for five months because it was not on the market as yet; however, on the up side this provided me with a substantial discount, so I have no complaint in this regard. I have had much difficulty finding a good fitness watch that would fit my small wrist. The FR60 fits nicely without being bulky. Compared to my Mio Petite, the heart rate display is much easier to retrieve and most reliable, characters displayed are easier to read, and buttons are more ergonomic. The main difference is that Mio Petite had no chest strap, and the dual pressure button system was quite awkward and unreliable. The lavender color on the FR60 is nice and discrete — thanks, however, for not making it a hot pink or orange! On the down side, the product is so new that it is not yet supported by the Web site. This deadline is a big failure on the part of Garmin!!! Then tech support is only open at certain hours during the week, and there are no Q&As for FR60 as yet on the Web site. Once I manage to have access to my data online, I intend to order the foot pod, which should be a natural add-on to this product. Despite my initial frustrations, I expect to really enjoy this watch and I highly recommend it to any active woman with petite wrists.
