1 Star Decent looking, but poor quality
I was initially pleased with my Timex 1440 watch when I received it two months ago. Even though the button operations are different from and more limited than other Timex watches I’ve owned, it had the features I wanted (namely and alarm and stopwatch) and it wasn’t too hard to use once I got used to it.

However, after two months of daily use the watch stopped working. It is stuck at 7:20 p.m. and does not respond to any button pushes. I never immersed the watch and I didn’t do anything more than your average day to day living while wearing the watch. I looked up the warranty information for the watch and found that it would cost $7.00 to get the watch repaired or replaced – almost half the cost of the watch! At this point I’m not sure if I’d be throwing good money after bad by trying to get it repaired/replaced or if I should just give up and buy something else.

I would not suggest buying this watch – while it is an attractive price, decent looking, and functional, it just doesn’t seem to last. And while there is a warranty, paying half again the price of the watch to get it repaired/replaced seems like a pretty raw deal.

I really like these watches. I also own the white and pink one. They are sporty but classy enough to wear in every day attire. I just got this one after my white one was becoming a little dingy from running, biking, and swimming in it for almost a year. I like them so much I wouldn’t mind having all of the colors. Extremely easy to program with a lot of cool settings. Great womens/girls watch!

3 Stars Normal digital watch
I purchased this to have something for running and to do outdoor activities with, since my Gucci watch is not at all appropriate! I was expecting a standard digital watch which is what I got. A little on the flimsy side I guess, but it was very inexpensive. Setting the time was a little tricky for some reason, even when following the instructions. I haven’t used the stopwatch feature on it yet. I would say that if you have very small wrists you may need to punch another hole in the band. I have mine on the smallest hole and although I have small-ish wrists, I’m not petite by any means.

4 Stars good watch
Pretty much what I expected, having owned Timex sports watches before. Clear display, 24-hour clock option (though I couldn’t find it until it WAS afternoon). Light and time display size are large enough that I can see the time without my glasses. Instructions are clear and operation is fairly intuitive without them.

Grey band is a nice neutral. The only real downside: the plastic is hot, which doesn’t help during exercise. I find myself removing the watch from my wrist sometimes. And it’s a special band so I can’t even replace it.

3 Stars Bargain Watch – Not Unisex
This Timex watch is a real bargain, but it does have a very large works, which is about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Clearly, this is too large for a smaller wrist, and accordingly not truly unisex.

The watch itself was easy to set up and has a large readable display. However, the function buttons are labeled in red against a gray background and are difficult to read. The start/stop, indiglo, mode, and set buttons are in the same locations on the dial as my previous Timex Ironman watch, so the functions were familiar to me.

Bottom line – If you have a large wrist, prefer a large display, and are short on cash, I recommend this watch. Otherwise, get the Timex Ironman.

This watch is too bulky and big to wear. The price makes it look tempting but it swallowed my wrist. The size is more like a guy’s wrist watch. Would never buy again. It’s huge!!

3 Stars Easy to read!
This is the easiest to read watch that I have ever owned! The time and date are very large and bold, great for those of us with less than perfect eyesight

The time was a little off, it gained about 5 minutes in 6 month’s time. Also, the band is plastic, so no surprise when it broke after 18 months, the problem is that there is no way to replace the band.

I really liked the style, and with the easy to read face, I am considering purchasing another one in spite of the short comings.

2 Stars Good watch, TERRIBLE strap.
I had this watch for about four months before both the top and bottom straps started separating from the face. I could still wear it, so I did, until another problem arose: the strap got a big crack in it and eventually broke. All because of normal wear; I’m not that abusive. I thought perhaps it was just that one watch until I sent it in to nike, which returned me a brand new watch for $12, on which the straps began separating from the face AGAIN. One day the strap finally separated completely from the face, so I can’t wear it anymore. Now I can tell the problem is that the rod connecting the strap to the face is held in on the ends by cheap plastic that breaks easily, allowing the rod to bend and eventually snap. I loved this watch (both of them actually), but I’m moving on to a watch with a strap that wraps around the face.

I run, bike & swim in my Nike Imara HRM & love it! It’s accurate & easy to use. The CD that came with it was educational & helpful. I’ve had no issues with it picking up other monitors (some other reviewers said it did) even when we’re close together.

I wish it did 2 things: 1 – provided max hr during workout (real bummer!). 2 – downloaded to my computer (I’m a data geek). But, for the price $79.00, I’m not complaining!

Now, if I could only find a sports bra as wonderful!

5 Stars Great kids/teen watch
Good quality & functions for all the things my 7, 12, & 13 year olds wanted it for. Fun colors too!

1 Star Nice look, bad watch
I bought this watch cause i really liked the look of it and the color and the reviews for it were mostly good. I also needed a watch that was waterproof so that I didn’t need to take it off every time i went near water. One small thing that i found annoying was that when setting the time or alarm or anything, you couldn’t go down so if you go one minute too high you have to go ALL the way back around. One more thing is that on the timer, you have to reset it every time that you use it. For example, if I set 5 minutes on it, and then pressed start, once it gets down to 0, and I want to use it again I have to reset the whole thing. There was one giant problem with the watch for me. On here it said that it was waterproof. The very first time that it got wet for me it fogged up inside, and I couldn’t read the numbers as easily. About a week later, water droplets started getting in my watch. Then all of the numbers disappeared and now its blank. If you ask me, you can find a watch a LOT better than this. It may not look as cool, but this one didn’t work at all for me. I had it for less than a month.

Nice looks, but very unintuitive menus to change date and alarm etc. buttons very hard to press..leaves painful dents in your skin that feel sore for 10 minutes after..you get only what you pay for.

2 Stars From new to green in less than 3 weeks!
While the watch functions fine, and has all the features plus more that I’ve always had (I’ve worn a Timex Ironman woman’s watch for about 10 years now)…this band turned GREEN (it was light & navy blue) within a few weeks and has only gotten worse. It’s definitely not worth $40.

4 Stars Simple, good looking, inexpensive, casual watch
The title kinda says it. The watch looks like its picture, fits well on my wife’s slender wrist, and tells the time clearly.

2 Stars Look for a better cheap watch
I liked the watch as a cheap, practical sports watch with a decent alarm function. Setting the alarm wasn’t intuitive, and it was easy to accidentally activate the stopwatch, etc. But I would have lived with that for the price, because all I *really* wanted was a watch and a daily alarm reminder.

But the strap broke suddenly (with no trauma–just fell off one day) after only a couple of months of light wear. Or more accurately, the plastic notch that holds the strap on broke, which means you can’t fix it. And of course I didn’t bother to keep the packaging for a $15 watch.

I’m not being a price snob–I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than $30 on a watch, but I do expect them to hang in there for at least a year. So I’m back to my old (alarmless, alas) metal watch from Target that I’ve had for 5 years. No more plastic for me.

5 Stars Comfy watch
I bought this watch a few years after giving away my Timex Ironman (to someone who needed it more than I did), trying to find one I liked as well, and I have to say this one fits the bill. It’s very comfortably sized, the band doesn’t pinch, and best of all, it’s proven itself to be very watertight, and has suffered no damage from being worn while bathing two small children.

I purchased this inexpensive watch for a trip to Hawaii and a lot of snorkeling. A total waste of money. Went on the fritz the first day of being in and out of the water. Ended up in the garbage can at our rental.

4 Stars Superior Running Watch
After recently buying this product and taking it for a few runs, on and off-road, I’ve had none of the difficulties others have. The bezel is adequate, and as there is really no need to be pushing buttons or scrolling through menus while on a run it is completely functional. The software has worked flawlessly for me and has provided me with a plethora of information, making my written training log nearly obsolete. I can’t ever imagine using all of the functions provided by the 405. The GPS usually connects quickly, and I’ve never lost a signal. The shape of the watch does make it a better fit for those with larger wrists, but you can always just wear it higher up on your arm. You’re going for a run, how comfortable do you plan on being? Though this is my first Garmin watch, I am willing to bet most issues others have had are due to user error, as I am not the most tech-savvy person.

My only qualm with this product would be the accuracy of the GPS measurements. I’ve seen the accuracy on my watch jump to +/- 113 ft., and when on a 10-15 mile run, that can really add up.

Furthermore, because of the setup, it isn’t very practical for interval training, but let’s be honest, it’s easier to just stick with a stopwatch.

Other than this, it’s totally worth it for someone who, like me, does a lot of running and a lot of trail running (as the mileage on trails can get dicey). I personally plan to take this watch with me on most of my runs.

5 Stars Excellent product

I am very pleased with not only the fast delivery of the watch but also with its performance.The gps enabled feature has really changed my runnings entire dynamic. While it did get some getting used to with regards to use and online support overall I am still, after a few weeks of use, very happy with the watch. Now a few words of advice: always lock the bezel when going on a run to prohibit sweat or rain from messing with the sensitivity of the bezel and be use software updates with caution and be sure to read how to redtart the watch if the update fails and leaves the watch unactive.

5 Stars Can’t live without it for training!
Currently training for a marathon. I guess people have trained before without the use of a GPS watch but why not use the technology if we have it. Watch is great for training. I mainly use the watch for miles/time/and pace. Many other features of this watch that I have yet to use but love how I can log on after a run and see the terrain/calories estimated and map of course. Great watch. I agree with the others to lock the bezel prior to running because the sweat will sometimes cause it to move in the menu. Not a big deal.

2 Stars Decent GPS and definite improvement but plenty of issues
I bought this recently after owning the 201 previously. The design on the 405 CX is much better than the rectangular old design but that seems mainly attributable to the decreasing size of technology. I also owned a polar with a footpod recently for comparison and viewed this an upgrade. Overall, my experience has been only OK and echoes a number of comments on here that i didn’t see or hear from the running store when i purchased the 405. Had it been a $200 purchase i’d view it as an expensive and heavy watch that sometimes has a useful GPS function but it was ~$400.

Positives:

A little large but not as large as previous devices

Software was relatively straightforward to get installed (but doesn’t work reliably – see below)

Finds location faster than prior version but not nearly as fast as others indicate here (i live in NYC so tall buildings can present a problem but it does ok in trails of NJ or other tree covered areas) – i have never had it lock in the ’5 seconds’ others mention. The best case is 20 seconds and up to a minute or two, which is obviously frustrating since you can’t start the timer until it locks

Negatives:

Biggest complaint is that the software worked exactly three times uploading data and has not worked again (despite using multiple computers, turning off surrounding wireless devices, etc)

I emailed customer support, got two responses then no responses after that when i clearly outlined the problem had not been solved

the heartrate monitor is subpar and feels like polar technology from five years ago. the hard plastic definitely will rub you raw if you’re not careful.

the bezel is twitchy and i have had problems on longer runs when there is plenty of sweat or rain and i can’t get the bezel to recognize the touch.

the menus are hardly intuitive and not designed from a runner’s perspective. i wonder who tests this stuff and if they can run around the garmin headquarters but i digress.

the altitude was laughably wrong but since i’ve only been able to see the elevation changes a couple of times (see software problem above) i can’t tell if that was run-specific or a general problem.

As you can tell i’m generally disappointed because i thought i was getting an upgrade but i’ve gotten a whole new set of issues. unfortunately, i’d still recommend this over the footpod option (notwithstanding the superior heartrate monitor) but if you can hold out you may want to consider waiting for the next version.

4 Stars First time Garmin watch owner and it works great
Being this was my first time I would own a Garmin sport watch, I wasn’t sure to either get the 305 or 405 based on some negative reviews of the 405. But I figured there were just enough good reviews, and it being a newer version I decided to take a shot and go with the 404 and I can tell you..so far…it works great! I’m using it to train for a marathon and I’ve been running with it for the past two weeks. I’m just blown away by all the information it is able to record and then transferring it wirelessly to my laptop and logging into my Garmin Connect account to get the detailed maps of the routes I took and information breakdown of all my runs is awesome. I haven’t had trouble locating satelites (takes less than a minute) and I can’t say I’ve had trouble with the bezel acting crazy during my runs. Maybe I don’t sweat so much that it gets wet maybe. Not sure. But I’ve even changed settings during the runs with no issues. But just as the manual tells you, you can lock the bezel after you have your desired settings and display. After that you can touch the bezel all you want and it won’t move or change screens. Really not a big deal from my experience. The watch fits fine around my wrists with no irritation or anything. Feels like a normal watch. I think the only thing that I found doesn’t record correctly is the elevation. I guess it should work as intended but I don’t rely on the elevation data to much. Don’t know what else to say about the watch. It’s been working great for me. I thought the instructions were pretty clear (such as syncing the watch and laptop) and easy. I’d recommend getting the watch.
